Bird feeder fun with a side order of FREAK OUT!!

13 Mar

I learned this way back in the day when I was in girl scouts. It’s the perfect family time craft in the spring/summertime.

Making a DIY Pine cone bird feeder!

First, you need to take the kids out on a pine cone hunt! You could even get some dollar store  supplies before you head out on your journey. Grab a cool bag to collect them in, a little magnifying glass etc…then they will be all set to go on a super secret mission!

Then all you need to do is spread peanut butter on your pine cones, roll them in bird seed and hang them up! Easy Peasy!

Things you need

Roll in seed

Adrian isn’t old enough to make one himself but he is the best pine cone collector out there and he helped me pick just the right spot to hang it….

Adrian and pine coneHanging in the treeMeanwhile, behind the scenes….

We hung the bird feeder and I put Adrian on the patio next to his Wagon to play while I went inside to grab the laptop. That way I could work on this post while he played in the yard.

To give you a better picture of the situation My laptop was at arms reach inside the back door, I was inside long enough for the screen door to close.

When I returned I see Adrian looking very confused.

Then I noticed that his cheek looked like a baseball player with chew in it.

Yes, I FREAKED OUT!

I swooped the mystery object out of his mouth IMMEDIATELY!!

What was it you ask?

snail ahhThis is officially the most horrifying thing he’s ever done…by far!

I could see it as I pulled it out of his mouth and I screeched! It was seriously like something out of the movie Aliens.

That will teach me to leave him in the yard unsupervised for ANY amount of time!

He crunched a nice hole in the snail’s shell too (as you can see).  So yeah, I had to dig tiny bits out of his mouth.

Then it was off to the bathroom to wash his mouth out and brush his teeth, which he loves.

So, for him, that confusing moment was over and he giggled the entire time.

Me? I’m not giggling….I’m grossed out.

Just a day in the life! 🙂

Garlic Cheddar Biscuits – No Milk needed!

1 Mar

Seriously, why is every Momma always out of Bread, Eggs and Milk? It’s always one or the other or ALL!

Thank goodness to meal planning, I only go grocery shopping once every two weeks (I’ll share my meal planning tips with you guys soon, we save so much money doing it). Since this weekend is one of my shopping weekends, we’re getting low on some things. Today I planned to have breakfast for dinner (One of our favorites! Honestly, who doesn’t LOVE Bfast for dins?)

Some Jimmy Dean maple and brown sugar sausage – my absolute favorite,  Eggs – I eat mine fried with a runny yolk but since my fiancée thinks it’s absolutely disgusting…I make a large batch of scrambled eggs,  some  buttered toast and a nice cold glass of milk to drink it down. <—sounds perfect right?

Ok now let’s minus the bread and milk cause I’m OUT!

I don’t know if it’s just me but I can’t eat breakfast without some sort of bread. There’s gotta be toast, biscuits or an english muffin present or I won’t be satisfied.

So I went on a search for a good recipe for NO MILK biscuits and came across this sour cream biscuit recipe on allrecipes.com (<–love that site!). I’m not even the best baker and it looks easy to me!

The original recipe calls for:

  • 2 cups of All-purpose flour
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 teaspoon baking soda
  • 3 teaspoons baking powder
  • 3/4 cup of sour cream (I used fat-free)
  • 1 1/2 tablespoons of water (I doubled it to 3 tablespoons)

I’m sure that recipe would be perfect just how it is with some jam etc, if that’s the way you’re going but I wanted to add some savory za-za-zing to it.

I added:

  • 1 teaspoon of garlic powder
  • 1/2 cup of shredded cheddar cheese (I used mild)

Lets’ get baking!

DoughJust use your hands to mix the ingredients and form into a ball.

Used glass to cut out circles

Roll the dough out and cut your circles, as you can see I used a glass

(I don’t even have a circle cookie cutter, that’s how much I don’t bake)

Biscuts shaped

Pre-heat your oven to 450 and bake between 13-15 minutes, depending on your oven.

(This is not shown in the picture but you will need to line your pan with foil or parchment paper)

This recipe yields 10 biscuits

Biscuits 2

and I don’t wanna get all Paula Deen on you but I definitely ate them with butter. Butter makes everything better (except your health)

They are fluffy, chewy, cheesy, and so good!

Enjoy!! (Unless you’re on a diet) 🙂

Treats for Tots

25 Feb

This morning I made a big batch of yogurt covered treats  for Adrian. He’s been teething and recently just got his second tooth. The poor stinker is miserable,  but these (and Tylenol) take his mind of things for a bit :).

Yogurt covered Cheerios to start! I used Organic Strawberry/Banana Yogurt.

Cheerios and Yogurt Just lay your Cheerios or fruit down on a parchment paper lined pan and cover them with your yogurt!

I mix them up really good so they are covered on all sides. Then just pop them in the freezer for about 20 minutes so they set up.

Yogurt covered cheeriosHe loves em!

I make him bananas too…

Yogurt covered bananasI let the bananas get a little soft before I give them to him (I’m one of those “Paranoid of choking babies” people) but they’re still nice and cold.

Bananas and cheeriosIt’s such an easy and healthy snack for the little ones! Not to mention fun to eat cause they’re cold.

Enjoy!

The perfect table for two THREE!

15 Feb

Why so smily and happy? I’ll tell you why.

Happiest girls are the prettiest girlsWes left for work early on Thursday morning, and I got to work with romancing up our house! By the time he would get home, it would be Marvin Gaye central in here!

So, I’m running around the house picking up, watching Adrian and crafting little Valentine’s Day themed crafts…

(Like this heart chain that I hung in the livingroom)

Heart streamer

……..and I hear the doorbell ring.

It could either be another dang salesman or something from my Honey and I was glad that for once, it was not the salesman.  Believe it or not, yes, it was a surprise, because our Valentine’s Day celebration is this weekend in Vegas!

Oh the life of a spoiled girl

Card Chocolate covered strawberries Edible Arrangement packageThere’s something about teddy bears that never grow old

After getting my package I was determined that my fiancée would not “Out-gift” me (like he always does). So, I got to work again with a little more pep in my step!

I created our own romantic restaurant at home!

I named it Amore Ristorante (Italian for “Love Restaurant”) because we were having very Americanized pasta. The sign also says Featuring head chef, Christine Kay, Please wait to be seated.

I taped it on the inside of my paper rose wreath, and hung it on the exterior of the door so Wes could see it before he walked in…

I printed out menus that said “Valentine’s Day Special” and made place settings like we were at a formal sit down dinner.

 A perfect table for two!

Buon Appetito!

So, I planned to feed Adrian and let him play in his room with his toys while we ate dinner. Everything was going as planned until Wes walked in the door…

Wes was totally suprised and his smile was pricesless!

However, as soon as he started talking, Adrian’s daddy radar went off and it was break down central until he picked him up. He is always so excited to see him when he gets home (a daddy’s boy).

We just had to make some small changes to our table and then it was perfect!

Now you see why I’m the happiest girl? What a wonderful night!

Hope you all had a wonderful Valentine’s Day like I did!
